The Negev and the South is a geographic region in the south of Israel, which have desert characteristics. The meaning of the word Negev in the bible is south, when this specific area covers the biggest part in the south of the country.
The region holds over 13,000 square kilometers, and its shapes a triangle, which connects to the Sinai desert in its west side and to the Arabah at the east. The Negev middle mountain is rising to 1000 meters above sea level, which is the highest place in the region.
The Negev and the South geographic region have several geographical, cultural and social features. Among these features there are also the three craterlike erosion cirques, which are beautiful fascinating sites containing three caters: The Large Crater, The Small Crater and the Ramon Crate.
The climate in the Negev and South region is dry and contained with desert climate characteristics. In the eastern side by the Arabah there is an extreme dry weather when it is barely raining. The maximum average temperature in the region in the month of August is about 41 degrees and about 24 degrees in January.
The region, that located about two hours drive form the center of the country, holds great tracks, trips, jeep trips and historical sites. In the Mitzpe Ramon area there is a developed touristy place filled with rural accommodations, hotels, hostels, field schools and many other attraction for tourists.
The central settlements in this geographic region are Beersheba, Dimona and Mitzpe Ramon.
