Beer Sheba

Beersheba (or Be'er Sheva as pronounced in Hebrew) is the largest city in the Israeli Negev desert, when it is also named as the Capital of the Negev.
As a resolute, it has become the administrative center for the southern region and home of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and the Soroka Hospital. 

It is located in the heart of Israel, and distant 1 hour and 20 minutes from Jerusalem, 50 minutes from the Dead Sea, and 1 hour and 10 minutes from Tel-Aviv.
This metropolitan city has a great potential, when now days it is becoming a major center of a commercial, industrialAbraham and academic activities.
This development the city has been going through in the last few years has made it attractive to a great number of tourists, which come to visit the city that combines old and new.  

The city is populated today, mostly by Jews who emigrated from Arab countries and ones who emigrated from the former Soviet Union.
One of the first who came to the area was Abraham, which came to settle down in the city, that is why it dates back to his time.

Next to the city, at the north-east, there is an archeological site called Beersheba, has evidence for population since the 4th millennium BC, but it was destroyed and rebuilt many times during its history.
In addition, according to historical biblical sources, the city of Beersheba has been regarded as a holy place of great importance, which was frequently mentioned in the bible as a location with great importance for people to associate with.
 
While visiting the city you can find archeological sites with remaining influences by the different countries that ruled Israel and the area at different periods of time, such as the Ottoman Empire, and the British with the British Mandate.
You can also see a number of buildings from the Ottoman times, when they are being restored by municipal actions.

The main employments in Beersheba are with a number of chemical and electronics factories, with the municipality, Israel Defense Forces, Ben-Gurion University and the Soroka Medical Centre.


The Negev Art Museum is also a part of this southern city, and it is exhibiting artifacts that connected to the Negev desert area.
The museum is located in the Atzmaut Street, in the "Bet Hamoshel" building, in the old city.  

There are organized tours in the old city, that include most of the significant historical interesting sites, such as Be'er Avraham (Abraham's well), the Jewish windmill, Bet Ha'shech, the water tower, The old Turkish railway station, The Alenbi Park and the Mission House. 

The city also has an active nightlife with a center filled with restaurants, coffee shops, night clubs, and pubs.

In Beersheba there's also the biggest night club in the country, "The Forum", which perform almost every night with big parties that attracts lots of young people from all over the country.
