Safed, or as pronounced Tsfat, is a northern city in the North region of Israel, which considered to be a holy one for the Jews, along with cities like Jerusalem and Tiberias. The city is located on a mountainous region that rises up to 900 meters, which make it unique in its views features. Today the city is mostly known for its Jewish learning and its artistic characters due to its cobblestone streets.
This capital of the Galilee is known as a center of Kabbalah and mysticism since its location in the area of Mount Meiron, where the grave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohay is located. In general this area that surrounds the city is filled with graves of important religion figures, which many come to visit their graves to pray.
Due to the fact that Tsfat is a historical transportation point between the coastal cities and the Upper Galilee region, the city has become a popular center. In the last few years the number of tourists arriving to the city has risen, when the tourist's interest in the area got expended.
In addition it is also an attractive place for vacations and relaxation place due to its health and holiday resorts. In the city there are about 6 hotels offering over 260 rooms and about 250 rooms offered by rural accommodation . The climate in the city and its surroundings is comfortable, since its snowing in the winter time and very pleasant in the summer time.
Many Jews from Spain got to Safed in 1492 after the expulsion of the Jewish community from Spain.
Among the Interesting sites in the city there are also the Safed History Museum, the Printing Museum, the Bible Museum in the Metsuda Park and the Statues Park.
