The city of Caesarea was built in the 22 century B.C., under the name of Caesar Augustus and was also the capital of Israel during the Roman and Crusader period. The city, which built as a harbor city, has been governed under many different rulers, starting the Persian era through different Roman governors and even some Muslims rulers.

In 1948, with the Israel Independence War, the city (that has become a village) was conquered by the Israel Military Force, when the village Muslim inhabitants were deported. Now days Caesarea, which is under the territory of the Carmel beach council, is one of the most wealthy settlements in Israel.
The settlement near the ancient Caesarea was founded on the lands of the Muslim village, which was destroyed in 1948. The main construction characteristic, in the new settlement, is privet houses and villas. The population in the settlement is going a bit over 3000 people.
In ancient Caesarea there is one of the fascinating national parks in Israel, with the special archeological site, that making it very attractive for tourists from all over the world. In the national park there has been a reserved authentic structure from different eras the ancient city has been going through. Between the reserved sites there is also the northern harbor, which was built with special ancient Roman building techniques.
Among the different remains that were found in that national park, you can find the Caesar Augustus's Temple. The Herod's Castle was built on the reef, which sticking out into the sea, and you can see a special mosaic floor, reserved from Herod's period. The Roman Theater, which was reveled in the 50's, is considered one of the ancient ones found in Israel. The Hypo-stadium, where games and battle shows were preformed in, is sprawling on a wide range of sea shore strip. One of the structures that give Caesarea's beach its special characteristics is the aqueduct, which stretches along the sea shore.  This aqueduct was built to supply water to the growing city of Caesarea.
The national park includes an observation post over the beach and harbor, coffee shops and restaurants, a Bosnian mosque, a display which combines a movie and a meeting with the heroes of the past, a time tower where the ancient cultures are coming to back to life, galleries and shops, art court, the temple stage and an observatory over Herod's harbor, the wall observatory, diving club, pier, the wall's southern gate, the Carado, the public bath house, the Hypo-stadium, the reef castle, the Roman theater and many archeological items.
